Writing Assessment Things to do
Assess the classroom writing environment, procedures, products and intrinsic factors Determine writing interests Do a written work sample Observe while writing Require journal entry dialogue Encourage self/peer evaluation before beginning specific test measures, teachers should begin by assessing daily classroom procedures, products, and intrinsic factors that impact students’ overall abilities, output and attitude. It is important to consider students’ writing interests, whether the classroom environment is conducive to facilitating, stimulating, and accommodating young writers, how they perform on daily work products, student journal entries, and measures of self-assessment. Direct observation of students while in the process of writing, can provide insights and a wealth of information that cannot be so clearly ascertained in the testing process.
