1 Welcome Hyde Families College Application Process

2  A partnership between the student, the parent and the college counselor  Schools that are the best fit for a student—academically and personally  All students will be required to participate in the college application process Our Philosophy “College admission is a match to be made—not a prize to be won.”

4 Complete materials following the College Counseling Office Timeline (see handout):  The application and supplements  The application essay(s)  Explanations (if needed)  Activities resume  Requesting teacher recommendations Student Expectations…

5 Working with their college counselor and parents students will:  Develop a balanced list of colleges  Choose Early Decision, Early Action, or Regular Decision  Know application requirements and deadlines  Update Naviance Account  Submit applications in a timely manner Student Expectations

7  Be your child’s consultant not manager!  Lead the Financial Aid Process  Discuss college expectations/financial parameters  Parent Recommendations  Thanksgiving Break  Early Decision Agreement Parent Expectations

8  “Have you ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at any educational institution you have attended from the 9 th grade (or the international equivalent) forward, whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct, that resulted in a disciplinary action? These actions could include, but are not limited to probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution?” Disciplinary/Legal Questions

9 “Have you ever been adjudicated guilty or convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime?” [Note that you are not required to answer “yes” to this question, or provide an explanation, if the criminal adjudication or conviction has been expunged, sealed, annulled, pardoned, destroyed, erased, impounded, or otherwise ordered by a court to be kept confidential.] Disciplinary/Legal Questions
