Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 2 of 10 Acknowledgments Acknowledge anyone that has helped you

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 3 of 10 Agenda Background Problem Requirements Design / Specification Analysis Project Plan This is your talk outline

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 4 of 10 Background First level –Second level Third level Here describe the background to your project. The background should be sufficient so that your problem statement makes sense to an outsider (i.e., your audience). One or two slides should do it. Do not discuss your solution here.

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 5 of 10 Problem First level –Second level Third level Here describe your problem in one or two concise and precise sentences. Problems are usually stated as questions. Do not discuss your solution here.

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 6 of 10 Requirements First level –Second level Third level Here list your requirements. They should match what you submitted. Remember, requirements are always numbered and measurable. One or two slides should do it. In some cases, a handout may be necessary.

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 7 of 10 Design / Specification First level –Second level Third level Here describe how you will solve your problem (and meet your requirements). This is the meat of your presentation. You will likely need mock-up screens, data structure descriptions, flowcharts, and/or block diagrams. In short, a design is a picture… it is not a bullet list.

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 8 of 10 Analysis First level –Second level Third level Argue why your design is a good one (Did you consider alternatives? How do you compare to existing solutions?).

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 9 of 10 Project plan First level –Second level Third level Outline the steps that you will follow to complete your project. Give milestones and dates. A Gantt chart is probably the best way to do this.

Design Review for Senior Project Month Day, Year 10 of 10 Notes Some rules of thumb –One slide per minute of your talk –Bullet text is one line at most Slides are not meant to be read –Half of your slides should have a figure or visual But no gratuitous “art” –Make sure font sizes are large enough for all to see –Neatness counts Sloppy presentation implies sloppy thinking and sloppy work –You can find example talks here: http://www.csee.usf.edu/~christen/pubs.html This is an example of a bad slide. It has far too much text on it.
