1 NEW INITIATIVES

2 TWINNING PROGRAM  To exchange of best practices via member-to- member technical engagement  Competitive small grants program funded by USAID ECO-Asia Program  Grant proposals submitted jointly by two AECEN Members  Outcome: Measurable results in one or both countries in terms of the adoption of new policies and practices, and/or increased capacity

3 TWINNING PROGRAM Activities and Contributions:  Engagement defined in terms of Regional Principles  Joint activities: peer review, assistance developing policies and practices, specialized training, fellowships, information exchange  Grant funds may cover travel related expenses, workshops, translation, document production  Members collaborate on a cost share basis, including in-kind technical staff and administrative support, facilities support and other inputs

4 TWINNING PROGRAM Grant Process:  In January 2008, AECEN will post grant solicitation notice for Members on AECEN website  Two Stage Process: (1) two-page concept note; and (2) five-page proposals with budget  Secretariat to review and evaluate proposals – final awards by March 2008  Award 2-3 small grants in 2008 for implementation over one-year; maximum amount – $25,000

5 BEST PRACTICES INVENTORY  Online database of information on best practices, projects, analytical studies and tools  Inventory promotes cooperation between Members and others in support of AECEN mission  Donor agencies, researchers, and others can better understand ongoing policy and practice in Asia

6 BEST PRACTICES INVENTORY  Twinning Grants Program  Best Practices Inventory via AECEN website Accessing and Submitting Best Practices:  Visitors to the AECEN website can view and download information  AECEN Members and other partner organizations submit information via AECEN website  Organized by Regional Principle, country, organization and date of upload  FAQs in binders provides more information
