2 Comparative adjectives….  Comparative adjectives compare two nouns. The rules for making adjectives into comparative adjectives depend on the number of syllables and the spelling of the word. Sometimes the ending consonant may have to double. They are as follows:  One syllable adjectives- add “er”  For example:  light= bad=  long= big=

3 Comparative Adjectives…  One syllable that ends with an “e” - add “r” only:  cute=  Two syllables that end with “y”, change “y” to “i” and add –er:  funny= happy=  Two syllables - use the words “more” before the word:  beautiful= handsome=

4 Superlative Adjectives…  A superlative adjective compares three or more nouns. This takes the comparison of nouns to the highest degree.  One syllable words - add “est” to the word. Remember that it is sometimes necessary to double the final consonant:  For example:  light= bad=  long= big=

5 Superlative Adjectives…  One syllable words ending with an “e” - only add “st”:  fine=  Two syllable words ending with a “y” – change the “y” to an “i” and add “est:”  crazy= silly=  Two syllables - use the words “most” before the word:  beautiful= handsome=
