2 Positive degree Just the plain ol’ regular version of the adverb! Ex: The fish swims FAST. Ex: We talk OFTEN. *****Used to describe ONLY ONE action*****

3 Comparative degree Used to compare ONLY TWO actions!!! Ex: The eel swims faster than the fish. Ex: They talk more often than we do. Some adverbs are irregular and need “more” added in front of the word rather than adding ‘-er.’

4 Superlative degree Used when THREE OR MORE actions are being compared. Ex: The shark swims the FASTEST of the three. Ex: My cousins talk MOST OFTEN.

5 Practice Write the correct form of the adjective or adverb in parenthesis that completes each sentence below. 1. The dolphin is (playful) than that one. Answer: more playful 2. Ocean animals are (interesting) than plants. 3. People trapped sharks because the sharks were often (skillful) fishers than humans. 4. Some sharks are (plain) in color than others. 5. A dog is usually (fast) than a cat. 6. I found the shells (quickly) than you did.
