Adjectives describe nouns They tell about age, size,shape,color and origin

Articles are a type of adjective There are two types: › The word the is the only definite article › It refers to specific items in a group › The indefinite articles are a and an › They refer to one single member of a group › The article an is used before a vowel sound

A numerical adjective indicates an exact number or a numerical order. › Words like one, two,three- indicate exact number › Words like first, second, third-indicate numerical order

Subject complements follow the linking verb in a sentence and describes the subject or the noun in a sentence. › Some sea animals are dangerous.

Most adjectives have three degrees of comparison: › The positive degree is used to describe a quality or characteristics, words like: large,small, hot › The comparative degree is used to compare two items-er has been added to the word. larger, smaller, hotter The superlative degree is used to compare three or more items and is formed with –est largest, smallest, hottest, most, least

Use little, less, least and few, fewer, fewest to make comparisons Use little, less, least before abstract nouns that can’t be counted Use few, fewer, fewest before concrete nouns that can be counted

Demonstrative adjectives point things out. › This and that for one person, place or thing › These and those for more than one person, place or thing › This and these for things that are near › That and those for things that are far

Interrogative adjectives are used when asking a question Which asks about one or more of a specific set of things What is used for asking about people or things Whose asks about possession

Indefinite adjectives refer to any or all of a group of people, places or things Words like all, any, both, each, either, every, few, many, most, neither, no, other, several

An adjective phrase is a prepositional phrase that describes a noun or pronoun The phrase begins at the prepositional word and ends at the first noun following the preposition › The butterflies in the rain forest can have brilliant colors.
