1 Safety Procedures For Lab EE-G.50 REV Team 2010,
2
2 Personal Protection Safety Glasses Leather Gloves for mechanical work Rubber Gloves for electrical work Footwear (closed shoes) at all times
3
3 Emergency Numbers Call to alert operator of situation On Campus:2222 Any phone:6488 2222 Toll free on on campus: 1800 655 222
4
4 Fire and Emergency Know... Location of Fire Extinguishers Operation of Fire Extinguishers Emergency Exit First aid kit (Room G62 EE Bldg) Assembly points (car park and lawn at new student centre)
5
5 Electrical Hazards No electrical equipment to be built, modified or worked on which connects to mains (240V) No electrical equipment to be built, modified or worked on without supervision that exceed 115V DC or 50V AC This includes Getz and Lotus! This starts with taking off battery compartment cover
6
6 General Hazards Careful when soldering in lab, as it may trigger smoke alarm (see workshop for assistance) Careful with electrical work even at 12-48V DC, as electrical sparking may occur (lab may contain flammable materials) Specific training is required for use rotating equipment such as drills, jigsaws, routers and grinders
7
7 Equipment Tag faulty equipment (i.e. flat Battery) Do not use equipment that looks faulty (e.g. exposed wiring/metal) Use car stands when under a jacked up vehicle Avoid finger pinching hazards (pliers slip)
8
8 Cars When working on any of the cars, make sure that traction pack power is being switched off: Emergency Stop Switch = Big Red Button pushed down = Off Getz: inside cabin, under EyeBot display Lotus: in car boot, behind battery pack SAE: behind driver seat
9
9 Electrical Shocks 45 cells x 3.2V = 144V 83 cells x 3.2V = 266V – If something does happen, stand on dry non-conducting material, and push person away using dry, non-conducting material on hands, e.g. rubber, wood, linoleum Seek medical advice after electric shock, regardless of injury Legal Requirement – Reporting electrical faults – Complete Injury/Incident form or tell technical officer on 6488 2036
10
10 Lab use Potentially hazardous work: Only when working in pairs Not after hours Observe the actions of others Supervision may be required!
11
11 Lab use Keep lab in a tidy condition Clean up after completion of Task Leave bags on shelf at door Visitors must be escorted in and out of lab. They are not allowed to stay in the lab unsupervised and are not permitted to touch anything.
