13 Project Goals Raise awareness about how volunteer engagement can benefit both the library and the community. Help support public libraries to create diverse and meaningful volunteer jobs Build the capacity of public libraries in California to recruit and support volunteers more effectively. Position California public libraries as community “hubs” for civic engagement. Assist community members to find volunteer opportunities that match their interests in public libraries or throughout the community.

16 The Launch of the “Community Hub” Today marks the launch of the Community Hub: making it easier for libraries to serve as the nucleus for community. Branded website for local community and library-based volunteer opportunities, literacy projects and community volunteer activities. Local libraries direct volunteers to the Hub website. Personal account for each library user that includes alerts, hours tracking and profile management. Location based searches show user local Library volunteer opportunities

21 Tools for Libraries to Promote the Hub Search widget that can be applied to each library’s website, to make them the hub for community volunteering. Resources and templates to help branches promote the site and increase volunteer capacity in their own communities. For those libraries involved in the Free2 initiative, we have created a Free2Get Involved link to keep your branding consistent.
