8. Volunteer Champions Overall aim: A team of pupils volunteering to promote volunteering culture within a school environment Working together: Turnbull High School and Volunteer Centre East Dunbartonshire have piloted this concept

Target Audience Any young person who would like to consider volunteering Teachers - employer supported volunteering For some pupils a one off volunteer opportunity is more rewarding Insurance issues under 16 years – pupils would be signposted to an internal volunteer opportunity or a group activity

Volunteer Champions Volunteer Champions have : Received training from the Volunteer Centre – team building, project planning, marketing, presentation skills (5weeks) + additional training Shaped the structure and future developments of this project Participated in events to promote volunteering - school in-service days, presentations at parent Council Organise and create new volunteering opportunities within the school

Volunteer Champions Volunteer Champions have: Established an “internal market” for volunteering Completed Volunteer Audits to register each opportunity within the school Encouraged others to volunteer Helped pupils gain awards and recognition through volunteering Created a volunteering hub Created publicity materials and influenced the project’s development Had Fun !!

Volunteer Champion Hannah's Journey I have gained a lot from Volunteer Champions Confidence through being involved in presentations Experience of running a project and I helped recruit future Volunteer Champions Received facilitator training Through Volunteer Champions I have been able to show people that they are volunteering even when they are doing things they enjoy.

Workshop 2 : Reflective Questions By considering the discussions from the Learner Journeys Workshop, and the good practice presentations you have just heard, identify some key steps to address your key challenges, identified during the initial discussions this morning? How can you ensure that good quality, targeted information, advice and guidance (IAG) is provided to every young person making the school/post school transition?
