Dr. Carter G. Woodson, is the recognized “father” of Black History. ASALH remains the paramount organization dedicated to promoting the study of the life and history of African Americans. This year denotes the 84th Anniversary of Negro History Week (1926) The 34th Anniversary of Black History Month (1976) MISSION To promote, research, preserve, interpret, and disseminate information about Black life, history, and culture to the global community

ORIENTATION

PRE-LUNCHEON GOALS Provide ASALH Staff and Luncheon Committee members with support to prepare the site prior to attendee arrivals including: Conference bag stuffing Posting Signage Prepare registration areas Ballroom Setup

Volunteer Assignments Greeters Hosts & Hostesses Green Room Registration Raffle Authors’ Book Signing Logistics

Volunteer Responsibilities Please arrive at 9:00 on the day of the Luncheon Please check-in at the Ballroom Level Room 18 with Ms. Shirley Smith Dress: White shirts/dark bottoms

REGISTRATION Welcome guests to the Annual Black History Luncheon Assist in the flow of traffic to the Registration Areas Provide each paid guest with a ticket including table assignment Report any problems to Ms. Ferial Bishop

RAFFLE Welcome guests to the Annual Black History Luncheon Assist in the flow of traffic to the raffle areas and handout raffle information sheet Invite each paid guest to buy a raffle ticket Circulate through book signing and ballroom Collect final raffles during luncheon Turn in money to raffle committee Report any problems to Dr. Lopez Matthews

Hosts & Hostesses Welcome all guest to the Black History Luncheon Ensure that each person entering the Ballroom has a ticket and table assignment Assist attendees in finding their assigned seats Help with VIPs in Green Room Address immediate challenges that may occur in the Ballrooms Report any problems to Ms. Clementine Carr

Greeters are stationed throughout the hotel at elevators, stairs, and around the registration area directing guests and maintaining the flow of attendees: Direct all attendees down the escalator/elevator to the Lobby for registration. Be familiar with ballrooms, bathrooms, and the hotel’s concierge desk (hotel lobby) ◦ Report problems to Ms. Shirley Smith Greeters

Authors’ Book Signing Greet and welcome authors Escort authors to their assigned table Assist guests with purchasing books and finding the authors to sign their book Assist in the sale and distribution of ASALH publications at the ASALH Booth Report problems to Ms. Alice Harris

Logistics Provide ASALH staff with support to help breakdown the Ballroom once the Luncheon ends Help ASALH organize and pack all materials so that they may be shipped back to the ASALH Office Report problems to Ms. Marlynne Brown
