Welcome to Second Grade! I will introduce you to second grade and to our classroom. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have during the presentation.

All About Me My background Live in Oakton with my husband and daughter Attended VA Tech, Masters in Elementary Ed., Masters in Administrative This is my 7 th year at Potowmack.

My Goals To give your student the academic and social skills they need to progress to third grade. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help your student make new friends and discover new interests.

Writing/ Word Study Writer’s Workshop Word Study/Word Wall introduced on Monday. Students are responsible for studying nightly at home. Tested each Friday.

Homework I will assign about 30 minutes or less of homework almost every night. You can check the status of your student’s missing/completed homework assignments on the Clarity portal. Due the following day*

Classroom Expectations School starts at 7:50 children should come to school on time and ready to learn. Children should come to school with their purple folder, planner and completed homework. On PE days, children should come to school with the appropriate footwear. On library days children should come to school with all their library books to return or renew. Snack in the morning @ Centers. Any Dismissal information that varies from normal routines needs to be communicated in writing.

Classroom Expectations Birthdays: If you would like for your child’s classmates to be invited to a private party. Please give any invitations to your child’s friends directly (not in classroom). It is best to keep invitations outside the classroom so that feelings do not get hurt if a child is left out. No edible birthday treats at school. Classroom Helpers: These have been assigned on the job chart. I will change these regularly. News: I will post a monthly newsletter on my website and email you…please provide updated email address.
