Tuesday: BELL WORK *SHOW WORK Use notebook paper and create the bell work grid Make sure you put the correct letter * show work- do not just write down an answer The area of a square field is 14,400 square feet, as shown below. What is the length of one side of the field? A = 14,400 ft2 F 100 feet G 110 feet H 112 feet J 120 feet
11
Objective 7.G.1 Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.
12
Area
13
Lesson:
14
Since all sides of the square are the same you can “square” your number 4 ft To find the area multiply length and width 4 x 4 Or you can square it 4 2
15
7 ft 7 2 = 49 49 ft 2 Be sure to include units of measure!! Since it is area you need to square the units.
16
12 m 4.5 in
17
Now that you can find area- let’s undo it!! Area is 25 ft 2 What is one side???
18
Now that you can find area- let’s undo it!! Area is 25 ft 2 What is one side??? What operation would you use to undo a square- the square root!!!
19
The square root of a number is a value that, when multiplied by itself, gives the number. Example: 4 × 4 = 16, so a square root of 16 is 4. The symbol is √ Another example: √36 = 6 (because 6 x 6 = 36)
21
Now that you can find area- let’s undo it!! Area is 25 ft 2 What is one side??? √25 = 5 Therefore one side is 5 ft.
22
Area = 81 sq in Area = 36 sq m
23
Area = 81 sq in Now that you found the side Length is 9 in. What is the perimeter???
24
Area = 81 sq in Now that you found the side Length is 9 in. What is the perimeter??? 9 x 4 = 36 in
25
Try this one Step 1: find the side length Step 2: find the perimeter
27
Lesson: Triangles
34
Trapezoids
44
Objective 7.G.1 Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.
45
Wednesday: BELL WORK *SHOW WORK * show work- do not just write down an answer
46
Bell Work-Wednesday Have out WB pg. 60…if you have lost your workbook grab a copy of the page from the front and start working on it. Get a red pen out.
48
Changing Dimensions Recall that similar figures have proportional side lengths. The surface areas of similar three- dimensional figures are also proportional. To see this relationship, you can compare the areas of corresponding faces of similar rectangular prisms.
53
The surface Area of a box is 10.4 cm 2. What is the surface area of a similar box that is larger by a scale factor of 3?
54
Formula surface area = surface area x (scale factor) 2 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure)
55
The surface Area of a box is 10.4 cm 2. What is the surface area of a similar box that is larger by a scale factor of 3? Formula surface area = surface area x (scale factor) 2 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure) ______ = 10.4 x 3 2 New figure would be 93.6cm 2 **keep units the same
56
The volume of an ice chest is 2,160 in. What is the volume of a similar ice chest that is larger by a scale factor of 2.5?
57
The volume of an ice chest is 2,160 in. Wah is the volume of a similar ice chest that is larger by a scale factor of 2.5? Formula Volume = volume x (scale factor) 3 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure)
58
The volume of an ice chest is 2,160 in. Wah is the volume of a similar ice chest that is larger by a scale factor of 2.5? Formula Volume = volume x (scale factor) 3 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure) ______ = 2,160 x 2.5 3 New figure would be 33,750in 3 **keep units the same
59
reminders When doing area (including surface area), keep in mind it is a 2 dimensional shape. Therefore, you use a square your scale factor. **give it an exponent of 2 When doing volume, keep in mind it is a 3 dimensional shape. Therefore, you use a cube your scale factor. **give it an exponent of 3
