Toth February 2007 Slide No. 10/ IAEA APPLICATION OF THE IAEA SAFETY STANDARDS The conclusion from the presentations and from the questionnaires is that (what was already known for IAEA) the IAEA Safety Standards are recognized internationally, but the degree of recognition varies significantly. They are applied: –completely, –partially, –only as a reference, –not at all. It was indicated during the meeting that some Member States have problems with the understanding of the language (wording) of the documents and this makes more difficult to use the SS. There was a strong agreement about the fact that the high quality of IAEA SS is the common interest for all Member States. There is a big change expected on the further use and application of IAEA SS by Member States as many MS started or will start a review process of their national Safety Requirements and a comparison between the new IAEA SS and their old national SS.
