3 Topic: Era of Jackson Date: 4/16/10 Lesson Objectives: – Students will evaluate Jackson’s presidency by completing a leveled activity Unit Questions: – Level Two: To what extent is Andrew Jackson a great president and to what extent is he a tyrant?

6 Andrew Jackson – p. 92 and 93 Structure: Rally coach structure – Take turns identifying and explaining different sections of the political cartoons Time Limit: 3 minutes Objective: – Apply prior learned information to identify reasons for opposition and support to Jackson during his presidency

7 Optional: Do you need a review?? Choice #1: BrainPop video that reviews Jackson’s entire presidency and everything that we have learned Choice #2: Use visuals to identify the positive and negative aspects of Jackson and his presidency Choice #3: Create a graphic organizer (t-chart) to identify the positive and negative aspects of Jackson and his presidency

8 Activity Option #1 The Whig Party formed in opposition to Andrew Jackson and his policies. For the political cartoon to the left, create an anti Jackson song, speech, or article that explains the picture and why Jackson was bad for the country.

10 Activity Option #3 You are the head of the newly formed Andrew Jackson fan club. You need to create a website that is dedicated to his great accomplishments. The site should include: – How he should be remembered today and why – Information on his work as presidency – Fan testimonials (written, oral, visuals) – Links to movies and other sites – Visually appealing
