Presentation on theme: "Diversity of Cellular Life"— Presentation transcript:

1 Diversity of Cellular Life
Unicellular vs. Multicellular Organisms

2 Unicellular Organisms
The cell IS the organism Protists and Bacteria They grow, reproduce, respond to environment, and maintain homeostasis Colonial Organisms: “Live” together, but have no specialization

3 Multicellular Organisms
Made of many cells Cell specialization: Cells are specialized to perform specific functions Cells of same type work together Can you name some different types of cells found in humans? Red blood cells, nerve cells, muscle cells, etc….

4 Closer look at cell specialization
Red blood cells are designed to carry oxygen Nerve cells are designed to carry impulses Muscle cells are designed to promote movement

5 Multicellular Organization
Organ Systems (Digestive) Organ (Stomach) Tissue (Smooth muscle Tissue) Specialized cells (Muscle cell)

6 Practice Explain the levels of organization involved in touch:
Nerve cells Brain tissue Brain Nervous system

7 More practice Explain the level of organization for 1 other type of cell found in the body Construct an analogy that also shows different levels of organization (ex. School)
