Why I Chose to be a part of the Club Was on the Club when I was in Elementary school. Wanted to help promote Jump Rope, which is a form of exercise, and is good for the Heart Thought it would be a good opportunity to learn leadership skills

The American Heart Association The Amercian Heart Association’s main goal is to reduce the amount of deaths caused heart disease and stroke. “It takes a heart to be a hero”

My Mentor Contacted mentor, Paige Nilles, who is director of the club, and also was a former teacher of mine from Elementary school. We met every practice, and every field trip we went on. Talked about why we promote Jump Rope For Heart

A Typical Practice Warm-Up: Basic Jump Rope moves Group Routine Stations: Long Rope Double Dutch Specialty Moves

Field Trips Travel to other schools to perform and promote Jump Rope for Heart, and teach other students the learning objectives that we learned as a team. Schools we went to: McMicken Heights (January 9 th, 2014) White Center Heights (January 30 th, 2014) Shorewood (February 6 th, 2014) Des Moines (In front of own school) Hilltop (March 11 th, and 12 th 2014)

Jump Rope for Heart Day Des Moines Elementary had 104 students turn in money. They raised $9,228.00! The most they have ever raised. McMicken Heights: 25 students Hilltop: 110 students White Center Heights: 97 students Shorewood: 93 students

Learning Objectives Recognize importance of movement, fitness, and nutrition Understand physical benefits of movement Demonstrate team support and skills and practice safety procedures Know the benefits of healthy choices Reaching out to the community and how it applies to helping students and people with heart disease

Struggles I faced Kids becoming distracted, not practicing when they were given the time too Program was only one time a week, unless there was field trip. Practices were the same almost every time Could not take pictures at Jump Rope For Heart, due to the fact that I didn’t have permission from many of the students

What I Learned I am good with leadership roles Working with kids can sometimes be a struggle, but is always fun in the end I want to help people stay healthy in the future, through the form of dentistry

My Future Working with the kids taught me about myself and how I can apply leadership roles in the future
