09/5/2013 Typography IIntroduction to Typography What is Typography? The art and technique of arranging type in order to make language visible. The arrangement of type involves the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing), adjusting the spaces between groups of letters (tracking) and adjusting the space between pairs of letters (kerning). Text is designed to create a readable, coherent, and visually satisfying whole composition that works together Type design is a closely related craft, which some consider distinct and others a part of typography; most typographers do not design typefaces, and some type designers do not consider themselves typographers.

The Ubiquitous Grid In graphic design, a grid is a structure made up of a series of intersecting straight guide lines used to structure content. The grid serves as a framework on which a designer can organize graphic elements (images, paragraphs) in a rational, easy to absorb manner. A grid can be use to organize graphic elements in relation to a page, in relation to other graphic elements on the page, or relation to other parts of the same graphic element or shape. 09/5/2013 Typography IIntroduction to Typography
