Solution: BRAIN BOOK™ System has intuitively organized, easy-to-find tabs and no hidden sections.

“Life Manager”: No Hidden Tabs
4
A BRAIN BOOK™ is intuitively organized: We “TALK TO” “People” so both similarly color-coded sections are placed next to each other. Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. Duplication without the explicit written permission of the copyright owner is strictly prohibited
5
BRAIN BOOK™ System teaches strategies for organizing tasks. The “ Bundling ” strategy— separate sections “bundled” for similar tasks: Think about “Starting a task” (arriving) as Bundle #1. Think about “ Finishing a task” (to go home) as Bundle #3. Think about “Doing the task” (everything in between) as Bundle #2. Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. 7
Why teach someone to use STEPS Cards? “Bundling” is a fundamental brain injury compensation strategy. STEPS cards help us bundle parts of tasks we have already “bundled.” Skills trainers are taught to coach clients to ask themselves: –How many steps can I remember without writing them down? –How many steps are contained in typical work tasks? STEPS cards can effectively fill in the gaps. Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. Duplication without the explicit written permission of the copyright owner is strictly prohibited

Green ROUTINES Assumption : For all of us, ROUTINES form the basic structure for every person’s life, whether at home or at work. As a result, BRAIN BOOK™ System has bundled work and personal routines into the following: DAILY, WEEKLY, MONTHLY and PERIODIC ROUTINES Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. The “cognitive loop” Four parts of “Cognition” Information CAPTURE Information STORAGE Information RETRIEVAL Information USAGE Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. Duplication without the explicit written permission of the copyright owner is strictly prohibited
15
Information CAPTURE Teach clients: “Think of yourself as a fisherman, now. The information bits floating by all day, every day, are there waiting – needing – to be caught…” Use Memory Notes pages to “catch” all the bits of information you may need later Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. 16
Information STORAGE Our brains used to store much of what we needed. After a brain injury, they don’t serve us as well as they used to. The BRAIN BOOK™ System fills in the gap. Store what you “capture” by writing it in your BRAIN BOOK™ (some call it their “paper brain”) Use your BRAIN BOOK™ to store what you “catch” Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. 17
Information RETRIEVAL Think of a brain as an organic filing cabinet: After brain injury, many files are “around,” (in there somewhere), but it’s like they have been dumped on the floor… and a fan is is blowing, shuffling everything around, so that much of what we need is out of reach… How to find what you need? Capture, store, retrieve and use these files DIFFERENTLY by mastering the BRAIN BOOK™ System – the “gap filler.” Use your compensation skills to retrieve what you’ve stored Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved. Information USAGE The BRAIN BOOK “Work Manager” answers the question: What do I do with information after I have successfully captured, stored and retrieved information? Answer: Use it to… -Start tasks and projects (with STEPS cards) - Do tasks and projects (with STEPS cards) -Stay organized (with your BRAIN BOOK™ sections -Communicate effectively (with TALK TO sections) -Schedule routines and other tasks (with ROUTINES and STEPS cards) -Solve problems at ___ (with Problem Solving section) Copyright ©2007 Kathy Moeller All rights reserved.
