11. 1. Read silently for 15 minutes. This will get you immersed within the book and able to understand the exposition(setting, background, character). 2. Be prepared to record golden lines, comments, and connections as you are reading with post-it notes(minimum of two!)

12.  Mark your pages you chose and comments with the post-it notes.  Take turns reading your connections and thoughts.  Each person will choose a question from the envelope.  Write your question and answer in complete sentences in your journal.  Be prepared to share with your group, and then the class.

13.  Warm-up: Brainstorm your favorite monsters from fiction and nonfiction.  Word splash- Use the following words in a creative paragraph:  Expert, dinosaur, predator, species, fossil, extinct.

14.  As we read, look out for text features such as subheadings, captions, and graphic aids.

15.  After reading, your group will be assigned one section of the article.
