HE UTTAR PRADESH FIRE PREVENTION AND FIRE SAFETY RULES 2005
MINIMUM STANDARDS

MEANS OF ACCESS • Width of street on which building abuts
shall be min 12 M • The road shall not terminate on dead end. • Open space around building should not be used for parking. • Main passage should not be less than 4.5M and gate arch not less than 5M height.

UNDERGROUND / OVER GROUND STATIC TANKS
Water replenishment min 1000 lpm. In case of tank in pathway. Covering slab should withstand min 22.5 ton vehicular load. Water tank should feed the domestic water tank by overflow. FB inlet 4/2 way at street level connected with static tank. 150 mm pipe.

AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEM

FIRST AID HOSE REELS Should be provided with 30 M long hose
pipe on every floor. Min dia of hose should be 19mm. Connected with riser / down comer.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER A-Fires in Ordinary combustibles (Wood, Vegetable
fibres, rubber, plastics, Paper and the likes). Gas expelled Water and Antifreeze type extinguishers and Water Buckets. B-Fires in flammable liquids, paints, grease, solvents and the likes. Chemical Extinguishers of Carbon dioxide type and Dry Powder type and Sand Buckets. C-Fires in Gaseous substances under pressure and liquefied gases. Chemical Extinguishers of Carbon di oxide and Dry Powder type. D-Fires in reactive chemicals, Active metals and the likes. Special type of Dry Powder, Extinguishers and sand buckets

FIRE EXTINGUISHER One 9-litre water/sand bucket shall be provided for every 100 sq. m of the floor area or part thereof and one 9-litre water type extinguisher shall be provided to six buckets or part thereof with a minimum of one extinguisher and two buckets per compartment of the building. Acceptable replacement WATER BUCKETS Water type Extinguishers For each 9 litre Extinguisher For one bucket For two buckets Dry Sand1 bucket 3 bucket ---Carbon-di-Oxide Extinguishers(IS: 2878)03 Kg.09 Kg09 KgDry Powder Extinguisher(IS: 2171)02 Kg 05 Kg Kg(In one or more extinguishers) For rooms containing electrical transformers, switchgears, motors and/or electrical apparatus only, not less than two 2 Kg dry powder or carbon dioxide type of extinguishers shall be provided within 15 m of the apparatus. Where motors and/or other electrical equipments are installed in rooms other than those containing such equipments only, one 5 Kg dry powder or carbon di oxide extinguisher shall be installed within 15 m of such equipments in addition to the requirement of rules and for this purpose, the same extinguisher may be deemed to afford protection to all apparatus within 15 m thereof. Where electrical motors are installed on platforms, one 2 Kg dry powder or carbon di oxide extinguisher shall be provided on or below each platform.

COMPARTMENTATION ALL FLOORS SHALL BE COMPARTMENTED WITH AREA NOT
EXCEEDING 750 SQ M BY A SEPERATION WALL WITH 2 H FIRE RATING

Automatic Fire Detection system / Manually operated alarm System
Manually operated alarm systems is to be provided in all the buildings as per the provisions laid in NBC.

PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM In large and hi rise building PA system
linked with the automatic fire alarm system should be provided.

ILLUMINATED EXIT WAY MARKING SIGNS
All the exits should be clearly marked. Illuminated signage should be fixed at all exit routes and points to assist in effective evacuation of people in case of emergency.

ALTERNATE SOURCE OF ELECTRIC SUPPLY
All hi rise buildings should have provision of alternative source of power supply for emergency lights and pumps.

WET RISER / DOWN COMER Wet Riser / Down comer to be provided as
per the provision laid in NBC.

SET BACK All buildings should have necessary set
back clear of all construction as per NBC.

FIRE DRILL All high rise buildings should practice Fire
Drill for fast and effective evacuation in case of emergency.

MAINTAINANCE OF FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM
The Fire protection system should be regularly maintained by competent agency so that they are operative in case of emergency.

STAFF TRAINING FOR OPERATION OF FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM
All high rise should have trained staff to operate the fire protection system.

PERIODICAL FIRE SAFETY AUDITS
PERIODIC RENEWAL OF FIRE CLEARANCE AFTER DEPOSITING PRESCRIBED FEES To be done as per requirement of Fire Department
