11 LEP COMMITTEE MEETINGSLEP COMMITTEE MEETINGS LEP Student Record Under Revision through WVEIS Similar to Online IEP Web-based record

12 LEP COMMITTEE MEETINGSLEP COMMITTEE MEETINGS Assigning Appropriate Accommodations ACCOMMODATIONS WVEIS CodeContent Area of Assessment Recommended English Language Proficiency Level of LEP Student When would this accommodation be most appropriate? Direct Linguistic Support - Oral Read aloud test verbatim P02 All WV-MAP assessments except reading/language arts and writing Levels 1-3 Most appropriate for students whose listening skills in English are higher than reading skills, test items can be read aloud verbatim.

13 LEP COMMITTEE MEETINGSLEP COMMITTEE MEETINGS Guidance for Assigning Accommodations STEP ONE- Consider the LEP students level of language proficiency in English and the native language. STEP TWO consider other student background characteristics: – (a) time in the U.S., (b) students affective needs, (c) students academic capacity, (d) age/ maturity, (e) socio-cultural background and (f) transitory or migrant status. – The committee must articulate the reasons for differentiating accommodations for this student What does this individual student need to show us what he/she really knows? If provided, will the accommodation change what the test is trying to measure? If appropriate, has the student had prior experience using this accommodation?

14 LEP COMMITTEELEP COMMITTEE STEP THREE - Document the accommodations selected in the students LEP Assessment Participation Form. http://wvconnections.k12.wv.us/documents/LEP AssessmentParticipationForm090409.doc http://wvconnections.k12.wv.us/documents/LEP AssessmentParticipationForm090409.doc MONITOR Implementation of Accommodations Two weeks prior to WESTEST 2, the County Test Coordinator will request the Title III Director to run the report labeled Print LEP Student Testing Options. This report lists eligible LEP students with their accommodations, as entered into the WVEIS testing record. The Title III Director will work with appropriate school staff to verify these are the correct accommodations as per the students LEP Plan.
