Organization matters: Lenin’s theory of vanguard parties Totalitarian ideologies Cult figures, propaganda, mass mobilization, and non-state-violence The empirical record of revolution: Ugly and not helpful to the masses; institutionalization almost always leads to purges, a dominant party, and authoritarianism
