8. Emergency Procedures Secure a Safe Area Restrict Safe Area
- Minimum safe distance of 5 meters

- If possible, do not leave the area unattended

9. Emergency Procedures Re-admittance to area requires
- Dose rate monitoring
- Contamination monitoring
The CNSC must be notified:
- Within 48 hours of the incident
- Within 24 hours if material is lost or stolen

10. Safety Overview Close the shutter when:
- When unit is down for extended periods
- performing maintenance on line or
detector
- performing leak tests

11. Summary When working with radioactive material:
- Consider your time around material
- Remember to stay at a safe working distance
- DO NOT attempt to bypass any shielding
- Wear any required protective clothing
- Wear any required TLD or DRD monitors in the most
appropriate place
- Only work in designated areas
- Clean work area after use
- Keep an inventory of all radioisotopes
- Know what to do in an emergency
