1 Today  Class time to read independent reading book [project due 10/21]  Check and discuss: “Scarlet Ibis” discussion questions  Notes: Point of View  Point of View Activity  HOMEWORK:  vocab workbook and root note cards due and quiz over unit 6 on Friday VICTORY!!!

2 Point of View  Point of view is the perspective from which a story is narrated, or told.  First-person point of view:  First-person point of view: The narrator is a character who participates in the action and uses the first-person pronouns “I” and “me”.  Third-person point of view: The narrator is not a character in the story but a voice outside it. The narrator uses the third-person pronouns he, she, him, her, they, and them to refer to all characters. third-person omniscient point of view In the third-person omniscient point of view, the narrator knows everything, including the thoughts of all the characters. third-person limited point of view In the third-person limited point of view, the narrator sees and reports things through one character’s eyes.

3 Point of View Activity  Pick any story we’ve read this year:  “The Most Dangerous Game”  “Full Circle”  “The Cask of Amontillado”  “The Utterly Perfect Murder”  “Powder”  “The Scarlet Ibis”  How would the story have been different if it was told from a different point of view? [ex: “MDG” from Zaroff’s POV]  You need to list at least 3-4 differences and then explain how they would affect the story in a paragraph response.
