The Research Sheets 2 sides of A4 paper Learners will use specified resources during the production of evidence stage. These should show evidence of primary or secondary research carried out by the candidate and may include, for example: statistical, graphical or numerical data survey results interview questions and/or answers questionnaire and/or results list of internet search engine results newspaper article or extracts notes taken from a visit or talk; notes taken from a written or audio visual source. Learners may be advised by teachers/ lecturers as to resources that would be appropriate for the assignment at this SCQF level.

Statistical Data Appendix 1 www.mirror.co.uk

Survey Results Appendix 2 www.forbes.com

Internet Search Engine Results Appendix 3 www.google.co.uk

Newspaper Article/Extracts Appendix 4 www.theguardian.com

Notes from audio-visual source Appendix 5 BBC Documentary, Poor Kids, 2011 1 in 4 poverty 40% breathing problems, asthma 55% no holiday

Notes from video-conference Appendix 6 MacArthur High School video conference, Oct 2014 Q - Do you think health care is affordable in the USA? 1/52 (1.9%) Yes Q - What do you think about Obama’s health care reforms? 52/52 (100%) “Ineffective”

Notes from written source ????????????? Not sure about this – book, newspaper, internet site, letter If you take “notes” from sources above…be as BRIEF AS POSSIBLE Might be best trying to remember rather than write notes – don’t want to drop marks for copying

Notes from Letter/Email Appendix 7 Email from Margaret Curran MP

Advice… If adding notes from websites etc. – less is better If getting information from research sheets…make sure you DO SOMETHING with the information. Make a judgement about it. E.g. if you have stats written such as “55% Scots support independence” then make sure in your write up you say something like “This is a clear majority for independence and shows that…”

Advice… Number each source, Appendix 1, Appendix 2 etc. Then in your write up if you refer to a source on your research sheets, put in brackets afterwards: (Appendix 1) or (Appendix 2) You can annotate your sheets – highlight, add brief notes etc…see next slide…
