Concept of Time What is Time? –Time identifies a measurable period during which an action, process, or condition continues to exist –Measuring time is an attempt by humans to create a context in which they exist

Exploring Time To understand the past, present and future, humans have divided time into measureable portions. –Eg. We divide the year into months and use a calendar to measure the seasons

Time Terms Absolute Time –is time measured in precise periods,dates or times Joan of Arc was born in 1412 The class begins at 8:30.

Time Terms Relative Time –Is the time measured in relation to other things He was born the same year as Sidney Crosby

Time Terms Cyclical Time –A record of natural cycles, that is, cycles that exist in nature, such as days or seasons. They are repeated over and over. The earth’s rotation – relationship with the moon – day, month The earth’s revolution – relationship with the sun – year, season –The cyclical calendar that we use in our everyday lives is known as the Gregorian calendar. It was developed under the sponsorship of Pope Gregory XIII about 400 years ago
