3. I- Presentation Kinsale (Cionn tSáile) is a town in County Cork in Ireland. It is located some 25 km south of Cork City and has a population of 2,257. Kinsale is a popular holiday resort for Irish and foreign tourists which is known for its many gourmet restaurants and excellent leisure activities including yachting, sea angling, and golf. The town is also rich in culture with its art galleries and first class school of English.It’s a famous harbour.

5. III- History In 1601, Kinsale was the site of a battle in which English forces defeated an Irish/Spanish force. In 1690, James II of England, following his defeat at the Battle of the Boyne, departed to France. Charles Fort, located at Summer Cove and dating from 1677, is a fortification that guards the entrance to Kinsale harbour. It was built to protect the area and specifically the harbour from use by the French and Spanish in landing in Ireland. James's Fort is located on the other side of the Cove. When the RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German U-boat on May 7, 1915, rescue efforts were coordinated out of Kinsale, which was the nearest harbour. A statue in the harbour commemorates the effort.

8. A- The Kinsale Gourmet Festival The Kinsale Gourmet Festival is held in October of each year and is a celebration of all the fine things that Kinsale has to offer. The Man Friday is the first restaurant opened in Kinsale by Peter Barry.

10. B- Kinsale Yacht Club (KYC) Kinsale Yacht Club was etablished in 1950. By the mid 1950’s, there were six boats racing in the club. In the 1990’s, the Club embarked on three separate extensions to the clubhouse. By this time, KYC had become one of the leading yacht clubs in the country. Famous sailing competitions, such as the Fastnet race or « La Solitaire du Figaro », regularly call at Kinsale.
