Improved crop-livestock management systems for enhanced smallholder income and nutrition N. Karbo (Chairman) R. Abaidoo E.O. Otchere G. Gamor H. Abu S.S. Buah (secretary) M.S. Abdulai M. Abdulai Ben. Alenyorege I.Dzormeku

Hypothesis 1  Adoption of biophysical technologies under favourable institutional arrangement will lead to intensification and sustainable increase in crop-livestock productivity at farm household level (aligned to AR hypothesis 2) Hypothesis 2  Improved processing of crop-livestock products will enhance product utilization, quality nutrition and household incomes (aligned to AR hypothesis 1). Two research hypothesis

 Inventory of existing technologies to select best-bet technologies  Integrated Pests management (IPM) to minimize pesticide and environmental degradation  Integrated soil fertility management - Evaluate new fertilizer formulation for enhanced soil water and fertilizer use efficiency - crop residue and manure management for increase farm productivity. Activities for Hypothesis 1

 Inventory and promotion of appropriate land preparation methods (no-tillage animal traction etc)  Integrated housing and feed gardens for improved health and manure production Activities for Hypothesis 1

 Inventory, evaluation and promotion of the most efficient existing processing technologies  Introduction, evaluation and promotion of food commodities (crop and livestock)  Strengthening community seed production systems (food- feed crops, vegetables etc).  Formation of farmers’ business groups and reactivation of existing groups.  Train on improved food utilization for nutrient retention and bioavailability Activities for Hypothesis 2
