Ability Is what you are capable of doing Motivation Determines what you do Mindset = Attitude Determines how well you do it

M INDSET - WHAT IS IT ABOUT ? G AINING AWARENESS OF YOUR THINKING PATTERNS AND BEHAVIOUR I DENTIFYING AND DEALING SUCCESSFULLY WITH RESISTANCE TO CHANGE U NDERSTANDING YOUR M OTIVATION AND W HY YOU PROCRASTINATE

“If you always do what you always did you will always get what you always got”

C HANGE OR STAY THE SAME When you hesitate, you are associating more pain, or fear, to the change, than you do to staying the same. You can’t act because you perceive the risk of change greater than the risk of staying still.

MOTIVATION Motivation influences our behaviour and our ability to accomplish goals Our personalities vary and so does the type of motivation that will be most effective at influencing our conduct. No single type of motivation works for everyone.

“ CARROT AND STICK ” Incentive (The Carrot) is the knowledge that we will be rewarded in some manner for achieving a certain target or goal. Fear or The Stick is often utilized when incentive motivation fails. Fear involves consequences if we break the rules or fail to achieve the set goal. There is a penalty of some sort via punishment or negative consequences.

A WAY VERSUS T OWARD M OTIVATION The Stick ‘This is what we need to avoid...’ ‘I don’t know if you’ll be able to do this or not...’ The Carrot ‘Here are the goals...’ ‘You can do it!’ Cue Q: How did you get up this morning? What did you say to yourself? can, must, have to, want to, got to, should……. _________________________________________________________ 40% of people are motivated Toward the Goal (the Carrot) 40% are motivated Away (from The Stick) and 20% are equally Toward and Away

C HALLENGES Away motivated people Are NOT motivated by long-term goals or sustained by short-term goals (The Carrot!) There are similar issues for Toward and Away people To get them started and keep going on a goal. Strongly show what they are trying to get away from AND what they are trying to achieve. So that one representation pushes them away, and the other pulls them towards.

P ROCRASTINATION There are many ways to avoid success in life, but a sure-fire way is procrastination. Procrastinators sabotage themselves. They put obstacles in their own path and actually choose paths that hurt their performance.

PROCRASTINATORS : May be avoiding fear of failure or even fear of success, and are concerned with what others think of them. They would rather have others think they lack effort than ability. Not making a decision can be perceived as absolving procrastinators of any responsibility for the outcome of events.

G OOGLE YOUR N ECK TOP COMPUTER Your neck top computer processes in much the same manner as your regular computer does when you are doing a google search. If what is going in is not clear and direct, the response you get will be rubbish. So your self talk needs to be what you want and using clear, positive, precise words.

N EGATIVE VS POSITIVE ATTITUDE “Are you sure you can do it? Maybe you don’t have the talent.” “I’m not sure I can do it now, but I think I can learn to with time and effort.” “What if you fail—you’ll be a failure” “Most successful people had failures along the way.” “If you don’t try, you can protect yourself and keep your dignity.” “If I don’t try, I automatically fail. Where’s the dignity in that?”

N EGATIVE MINDSET OR POSITIVE MINDSET ? It’s all about self talk, so it’s up to you! Over time, which voice you listen to is your choice. Take on the challenge. Do or do not do There is no such thing as failure, only feedback. Learn from your setbacks and try again. Hear any criticism and act on it - change what needs to be changed.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE RESULTS YOU ARE GETTING, DO SOMETHING ELSE AND REALISE THE IMPORTANCE OF ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY That is 100 % Responsibility For all your actions & your inactions

R ESULTS VS EXCUSES
