Lesson Menu Five-Minute Check (over Lesson 8–7) Main Idea and Vocabulary Example 1:Choose Reasonable Temperatures Example 2:Choose Reasonable Temperatures Example 3:Choose Reasonable Temperatures Example 4:Give Reasonable Temperatures Example 5:Give Reasonable Temperatures Example 6:Give Reasonable Temperatures

Main Idea/Vocabulary temperature degree Celsius (°C) Fahrenheit (°F) Choose and estimate reasonable temperatures.

Example 1 Choose Reasonable Temperatures Choose the more reasonable temperature for hot water in a bathtub: 62°F or 102°F. Normal body temperature is 98.6°F, so hot water in a bathtub would be warmer than your body temperature. Answer: So, 102°F is a more reasonable temperature.

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 1 A.5°C B.22°C C.40°C D.65°C Choose the most reasonable temperature for inside a restaurant.

Example 2 Choose the more reasonable temperature for ice cream: 16°C or –2°C. On the Celsius scale, water freezes at 0°C and ice cream needs to be kept frozen. So, 16°C would be too warm for the temperature of ice cream. Answer: So, –2°C is a more reasonable temperature. Choose Reasonable Temperatures

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 2 A.10°F B.30°F C.34°F D.70°F Choose the most reasonable temperature for a cold glass of lemonade.

Example 3 Choose the more reasonable temperature for a cup of hot tea: 95°C or 15°C. Water boils at 100°C, so a cup of hot tea would be hot but not boiling, nor below normal body temperature at 15°C. Answer: So, 95°F is a more reasonable temperature. Choose Reasonable Temperatures

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 3 A.45°C B.65°C C.80°C D.95°C Choose the most reasonable temperature for a warm piece of pizza.

Example 4 Give a reasonable estimate of the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius for inside a freezer. The temperature inside a freezer should be colder than room temperature and also cold enough for water to freeze. Answer: So, a reasonable temperature is 0°F and −10°C. Give Reasonable Temperatures

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 4 A.20°F and −7°C B.35°F and 2°C C.55°F and 13°C D.85°F and 30°C Which pair of temperatures is the most reasonable estimate for going water skiing?

Example 5 Give a reasonable estimate of the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius for water in a Florida lake. Water in a Florida lake should be warm but not boiling. Answer: So, a reasonable temperature is 80°F and 25°C. Give Reasonable Temperatures

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 5 A.−5°F and −22°C B. 30°F and −2°C C. 50°F and 10°C D. 65°F and 18°C Which pair of temperatures is the most reasonable estimate for going snow sledding?

Example 6 Give a reasonable estimate of the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius for the temperature of a snowball. A snowball is made of snow. So, the temperature should be a little less than freezing. Answer: So, a reasonable temperature is 30°F and –1°C. Give Reasonable Temperatures

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 6 A.45°F and 8°C B.70°F and 22°C C.90°F and 33°C D.110°F and 43°C Which pair of temperatures is the most reasonable estimate for watching a video in your family room?
