1 Welcome to Mrs. Martin’s Math Class

2 My Background Grew up and went to school in Michigan Lived in California for 8 years and then moved to Texas I’m married with 2 children and 3 dogs Taught 7 th grade math in Magnolia for 6 years This is my 10th year in Montgomery Junior High

3 First Day Procedures Seating is alphabetical so I can learn your names. Adjustments will be made from time to time as needed. Please pay attention to all that is said. It is information that you will need to succeed in this class.

4 Responsibilities Be cooperative Come to class prepared (with all materials) Pay attention, complete your assignments, and STUDY Respect the people, equipment and furnishings of Room E218 Follow all classroom/school rules and routines

5 Supplies Needed Every Day Student Companion Spiral or Composition Book just for Math Paper Pencils / Pens Electronic Device if you do homework online Planner or take picture of board with phone before class begins

6 Entering/Leaving Classroom Enter the classroom in an orderly fashion. Keep aisles clear as much as possible Sharpen pencils before the tardy bell When you walk in, you should be putting phone up, getting calculator, getting supplies out and be ready for class to start. At end of class, clean up the area around your desk I will dismiss class, not the bell

7 Daily Class Routine Warm Up –(problems, correcting homework,) Questions on homework Lesson – (Launch, Got-It, Close and Check) Time to start Assignment Occasional quizzes over anything we have covered.

8 Daily Assignments Classwork will be assigned Monday thru Friday. Anything not completed in class becomes homework. Late work will not be accepted. This is a department policy. MUSTStudents MUST show their work for credit Partially done assignments don’t count for much.. Complete the whole assignment. everyoneWhen I give time to start work in class, everyone will work…no exceptions.

9 Grading Policy 67% Major grades (Tests, Projects) 20% Quizzes 13% Daily Work HINT:HINT: Multiple zeros will distroy your grade very quickly…Turn in all assignments

10 Tests Will be given at end of every unit. There will be a review before every test On Level classes have the opportunity to do test corrections for 5 pts added to your grade and also a retake after corrections if you choose PreAP is only allowed 1 retake every 6 weeks to replace a low test grade. (No credit for Test Corrections) The retake can be done during homework time or in tutoring. It must be done before the next test comes up. There will be a sign up sheet for retakes

11 Calculator Tests Given once a week during each 6 weeks Taken weekly until you receive a 95 or 100 grade Will be recorded as a quiz grade At beginning of every 6 weeks, everyone starts over taking the test

12 Pre-AP Grading In order to remain in a Pre-AP class, it is required that you maintain an 80 or above on every 6 week report card. Use Progress Reports as a warning and fix the problem if you have one before Report Cards. If you don’t achieve the 80 or above you will be placed back in an on level class.

13 Progress Reports Progress Reports will be sent home every 3 weeks. Use this information….if you are doing poorly, make changes and fix the problem before Report Cards go home. Report Cards go home every 6 weeks.

14 Tutoring Don’t wait until you are totally lost to ask for help. This is your responsibility. I am available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 to 3:30 If I am not available on a tutoring day, please don’t hesitate to go to another math teacher. Any one of us will be able to help you.

15 Absences the student’sIt is the student’s responsibility to get the missing assignments and turn them in. They will be in the file box in the front corner of the classroom. Refer to the calendar on the wall to see the assignment missed. Don’t take the last worksheet without telling me. I will not usually remind students to do missing assignments. If you need help on a missed assignment, please ask after you have looked over the lesson. Students will be given the same number of days plus 1 that they were absent to turn in make-up work. After that it is considered late.

16 Cheating Cheating will not be tolerated. Keep your eyes on your own papers. It is your responsibility not to cheat but also prevent others from cheating off your paper. Parents will be notified. Anyone caught cheating gets an immediate zero on the assignment.

17 Turning in Papers All papers must have your first and last name, class period. You may always attach a separate paper to worksheets to give yourself room to work the problems Circle or hi lite answers for easier grading. 18 Cell Phones Cell phones are not allowed to be used in class. You will be assigned a number for a calculator and a cell phone pocket Phones are to be turned OFF and placed in the correct pocket when you enter the room. You will be given time before the bell rings to pick up YOUR phone (no one picks up a phone for someone else)

19 Restroom Passes Do not ask to go to restroom during a lesson I will have cards on the side of the file cabinet for you to fill out. I do not have to sign it. Make sure you fill out the time you leave

20 Misc. I do have pencils/pens or loan loan out on my desk. You may borrow them as long as you return them. When they are gone I will not replace them. I don’t go thru your things…do not touch the things on my desk unless you have permission. This includes stapler, tape or paper clips. I will be happy to let you use them if you ask.

21 Just a Reminder No leaving the classroom during the lesson No walking around while I am talking. Sharpen pencils, throw papers away before or after class. No socializing during class, tests/quizzes or anytime when teacher is talking. No eating or drinking in class.

22 Supplies for Classroom We occasionally need things for the classroom that we all need or benefit from. If you have the opportunity to donate things for our classroom, we are always in need of Kleenex or dry erase markers

25 Online Textbook There isn’t a textbook as such You have a student companion that gives you the examples and problems to practice You will need a Math spiral or Composition book to take notes in and keep handouts Everything we do in class is accessible online for you to review Homework can be done online but your device needs to be in class with you so you can get started when we have time in class No internet access?? No problem …Hardcopies of assignments will be provided

26 Something for your Calendar September 16th is Meet the Teacher Night for 8 th grade parents September 23 is Meet the Teacher Night for 7 th grade parents The time is 6:00-8:00 pm
