WHERE IT ALL STARTED Soldiering- purposely working well under capacity for three reasons 1. If workers became too productive they would need fewer workers 2. Non-incentive pay systems. If you are going to pay the same no matter what then I will do the least amount of work. If you know I can work harder you will demand more. 3. Waste of effort doing rule-of-thumb methods

4 PRINCIPLES OF SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT 1. Replace rule-of-thumb work with methods based on scientific study 2. Scientifically select, train, and develop each worker 3. Cooperate with the workers to ensure that the scientifically developed methods are begging followed 4. Divide work nearly equally between management and workers
