2.  Turner syndrome is a genetic condition that affects development in one in every 2,500 females. Turner Syndrome has a wide-range of features that vary in individuals, but the most common is short stature and loss of ovarian function. It was discovered by an endocrinologist named Dr. Henry Turner. Dr. Turner discovered the disease in 1938 after he had noticed a pattern of small statures and incomplete sexual maturation in otherwise usual females.

3.  Turner Syndrome only occurs in girls and women, and most commonly caused by missing an X chromosome. The chromosome combination in a normal female is XX, but in females that have turner syndrome only one of the X chromosomes are functional. The other may be missing useful cells or may not be working at all.

4.  Short stature- most average adults can grow to be 4 feet 8 inches tall even after treatment.  Loss of ovarian function- most females do not start puberty, do not have normal breast development,can’t produce eggs and are infertile.  Low hair line  Receding lower jaw  Flat feet  Webbed neck  Broad chest  Lazy eyes  Lymphedema

5.  Other than being female there are no identified possibilities that enlarge your chances of getting Turner Syndrome.

6.  Although the largest part of Turner Syndrome cases are not inherited, there are some random cases in which it is. It happens in the creation of reproductive cells as an inaccuracy in cell division that can result in an abnormal number of chromosomes.

7.  Growth hormone: if taken in youth the growth hormone can progress growth and enhance height by a few inches. Although, since all children do not react sufficiently to the growth hormone there is bone –lengthening surgery that can increase the final height of children with Turner Syndrome which includes many surgeries.  Estrogen replacement therapy: encourages the normal physical changes of puberty. Until menopause, estrogen progesterone is typically taken by women with Turner Syndrome to protect their bones against osteoporoses

8.  There are no know cures for turner syndrome, but there are treatments for many of the associated problems.

10.  One of the most visible features of Turner Syndrome is webbed neck. That is when an extra fold of skin occurs on both sides of the neck and continues to the shoulders.
