REDESIGN ACTIVITY SYRKETHA HALE EDU 697 INSTRUCTOR KEITH PRESSEY SEPTEMBER 15, 2014

 A “topics” learning activity is “the lowest-level learning object in a course or other knowledge product, it is the building block of instruction that accomplishes a single learning objective” (Horton, 2012).

 “Shoe Tying” Two Loops

 When teaching preschoolers how to tie their shoes you must first model each step before actually teaching them how to tie their shoe. As our author “Horton”stated in our text a topic must be introduced so learners can identify the learning objectives.

For this activity you can use a lacing board or actual shoes with laces long and wide enough for the learner to grip.  Make a cross  Take the top lace under the cross and through the hole  Make a loop out of both laces  Cross the loops  Move the top loop under and through the hole  Pull both loops tight  Have your learners to repeat this process as many times as needed.

This activity is based on the needs assessment of 4 and 5 year old preschool students. The students has gained their own independence and want to learn how to tie their shoes on their own. According to research 4 year old behavior is defined by better self control and the need to be more self-reliant, making decisions and exploring the world (new activities, new friends). In class we this as an small group activity that way it ensures each student get a chance participate and ask questions or help when it is needed. I also send this activity home as a home work assignment for extra practice.

 To measure my students knowledge of learning to tie their shoes; I will give them about a week and a ½ to continue practicing then I will do a performance test. I will have the than the finished product of tying the shoe because if each step is done correctly students will eventually get the desired outcome.  I will also conduct a feedback survey with the parents after the homework assignment. I will have the parents answer a series of questions.  1. Were the instructions easy to follow?  2. Did your child enjoy the activity?  3. How much time did your child spend on the activity?  4. How likely are you to use this method students tie their shoe using each step of the “Bunny Ear” model. I will be looking for each step performed correctly rather again?  5. What changes would you recommend for this activity?
