Spreadsheet Lesson 2 Class 8E
2
Lesson Objective To understand what a formula & function is. To understand the difference between formulas and functions. To understand the difference between different functions such as: SUM, SUBTRACTION, AVERAGE and COUNT. To be able to use the HELP feature to find out about the function
3
True & False? A spreadsheet is useful for writing essays. A spreadsheet can perform complex calculation.
4
One box or square in a spreadsheet is called “CELL”. A, B, C, D are rows, they go vertically down the spreadsheet. True & False?
5
Spreadsheet is also called worksheet. Using spreadsheet you can create CHARTS and Graphs. True & False?
6
Using formula SumSymbol Used in a Spreadsheet Example Adding+= A1 + B2 Subtracting-= A1 – B2 Multiplying* (star)= A1 * B2 Dividing/= A1 / B2 When using formula, you must use the cell reference (the name of the cell where your numbers are) and the correct symbols for the calculation.
7
Function A function is a pre-set (shortened but more complex) formula in Excel. Like formulas, functions begin with the equal sign ( = ) followed by the function's. Example: = SUM( A 1 : A2 ) = Count( A 1 : A2 )

Spreadsheet Example
9
SPREADSHEET (Task 1&2 ) To obtain the spreadsheet, follow the instructions below: ◦ Shared area ◦ ICT ◦ 8E ◦ Lesson two ◦ Task 1&2 ◦ Save this into your own area.
10
Extension Task (Task two) Work on Task 2 and follow the task on the spreadsheet. Click on the tab called TASK 2
11
Plenary Which Is it? Function or Formula =SUM(F2:F4) =E 11*E12 =AVERAGE(F2:F4) =C8/C9 =A 1 +B2 =MAX(F2:F4) =COUNT(F3-F4) =A9-B9
