5 ● Guiding Question: How can students be leaders of their own learning to deepen their critical thinking skills, reflect on their learning, and make their learning more relevant? o February 2015: Learning targets with a focus on the criteria for success that can be used so students can self-assess, set their learning goals, and provide/give specific feedback related to the goal. o March 2015: Review research about choices and the impact on student learning. Teachers will analyze their classroom practice to increase choice in relevant tasks. o March 2015: Using questions to deepen student thinking with a focus on strategies and instructional techniques to lead students to develop their own questions for inquiry. 9 Next Steps ● Administrators will share the observation data with staff members. ● Instructional Coach will conduct model lessons for close reading strategies in 3rd and 4th grade (completion date April 30th).

10 Professional Development for 2015-16 ● Increase rigor and relevance in literacy instruction with a focus on close and scaffolded reading. o Resources: Rigorous Reading by Nancy Frey and Douglas Fisher (PD modules) ● Increase conceptual building of math standards and skills. o Resources:  Singapore Math: Place Value, Computation and Number Sense  Professional development by the math specialist using information from the Number and Number Sense required course. ● Continue to build the positive culture of the school o Resources:  PBIS work will continue as we refine our school wide expectations and supports.
