Les cinq règles d’or! 1.Keep it simple! Use the French the pupils know and look for opportunities to use things like days of the week, weather, simple exclamations, greetings etc. 2.Use props, pictures and actions to explain things. Where the language can be too complicated, just show what you mean instead.

Les cinq règles d’or! 3. Look for opportunities for songs. Once you’ve completed your script, are there any songs you could include? 4. Lots of repetition! Using picture books as a basis for a story works well for this. 5. Involve everyone.

Choosing a story 1.Pick something simple – picture books are good as they include lots of repetition 2. Or…known stories are good so long as you can keep it simple. E.g. fairy tales, aesops fables etc. 3. Invent your own! Theme it around a topic e.g. the weather or food and drink etc.

Checklist for writing scenes 1.Dialogue? Can it be spoken simply? 2. Actions and props? Can it be shown? 3. Opportunities? Are there opportunities for learned French or songs.

In groups, try to start to put together your story in French. Remember! Simple, learned French. If it’s too complicated, stop and find another way. Props, actions etc. Repetition Songs Involvement
