4.  OCTOBER/NOVEMBER  Parent’s Information evening  Assembly for students  Vacancies on school website.  PSHE lessons introduce Veryann site (when available) and WE process to students.

5.  The School website will contain a section for Yr 10 Work Experience  You can view or download letters, forms and powerpoints  A list of possible placements will be available to view in an Excel format.

9.  As soon as available students will also be able to access the Veryann site with Health and Safety information included.  Until this year it was administered by the Suffolk County Council Work Experience unit for all Suffolk schools.  The Unit has fallen victim to budget cuts and schools and Colleges have had to make new arrangements to ensure placements continue to be inspected regularly according to their risk level.  The Education Business Partnership, located in Ipswich, is taking over this role and will be funded by the schools using its services.  Arrangements are being finalised and hopefully you and your children will soon be able to access the job descriptions as before.  The school will still be responsible for deciding whether a placement is suitable and I will ensure that all placements have had the necessary checks.

10.  Own choice forms are only for placements that are not already on the 2012 List of placements.  Please check the list before completing a green Own Choice Form  Green Own Choice form to employer to complete.  Own Choices form returned to Mr Phillips by 31 st October  If not already on County or West Suffolk College database application to EBP Unit for inspection

11.  Student Choices Form to pupils by week of Mon. 14 th Nov.  Form completed by pupil and signed by parents  To Form Tutor by Monday 5 th December

14.  Choose 3 placements and write the correct information in the boxes.  Avoid placements which already have several other applicants.  Only apply for a school or nursery place if you have a genuine interest in childcare.  Do not apply for a place in a school you have attended as a pupil.  Make sure you can travel to the placements you choose.  Please ask your parents to complete the bottom of the form.

15.  Pupils may find placements in other parts of the country  Health and Safety checks are still necessary  Minimum 12 weeks notice needed for a London placement  If a new inspection is needed there is a fee of £40 or more

16.  All placements are assessed for suitability and graded into Low, Medium and High risk  Comprehensive checks are carried out on employers’ Health and Safety systems  Assurance is sought that students are not exposed to prohibited activities, materials and equipment  You will soon be able check the details on the Veryann site

18.  Employers will notify the parents (via the school) of any significant risk. Parents must acknowledge receipt of this information  Placement providers must have at least £2 million of Public liability and £2 million Employer liability before they can take students

19.  January first round of allocations  “You can’t always get what you want !”  Week beginning 6 th Feb. details of allocations to students  Second round of choices for those not placed  Meet with students who have not got a placement

20. Student Health Details form with space for any medical details relevant to being at work  Deadline for return of Health Details form to Form tutor – Monday 20 th February  Pupils write application letter and CV in PSHE classes  Follow up with telephone call to arrange interview during half-term

21. Interview during the holiday  31 st MARCH – 15 th APRIL  Student must take Triplicate Form for employer to sign and bring all of it back  Parent signs Triplicate Form

22.  Triplicate Form signed by employer, parent and student to Form Tutor by  Tuesday 17 th APRIL  No FormNo Work Experience !

23.  Monday 23 rd April– Friday 4 th MAY  STUDENT GOES TO WORK  Parents support exhausted children

24.  A member of staff will phone and most students will be visited at their placement  Please notify employers if your child is going to be absent  Contact me at school if there are any problems or worries

25.  TUESDAY 8 TH MAY  Return to school  PSHE lessons used for Evaluation  Employer Report forms collected  Work Experience reports feed into pupil’s File.  Employer Report to pupils and copy stored in school.
