Outline of today's presentation Introductions Scenerio One: Formative ASSESSment with Tutoring How to make a teacher account and a student account. Sceneio Two: Open response student critique Navigating around, reports, rosters, folders of content Scenerio Three: Book Homework. Where to go for more information. What it is like to get started.

Making Accounts

Scenario One: Formative Assessment with Tutoring.

Open Response Student Critique Students complete an MCAS Open Response Question independently Teacher selects 3-5 responses anonymously for students to grade and critique Students grade ORQ on a 4 point scale and provide an explanation to justify their score Class regroups and discusses critiques o What makes a strong response? o How was the use of vocabulary? o What could be added to strengthen this answer? o Is the response clear and concise? Makes students more aware and provides an opportunity to reflect on their individual responses

Sample Item Report Example of an MCAS Open Response Question given to an 8th grade class Areas of weakness include: calculating the area of shapes Please insert screen shot of question and item report here!!!!!

Book Homework Provides immediate feedback to students o Builds confidence o Creates passion to discover correct answer Report provides: o A percentage of individual student progress o A percentage of accuracy for each problem Highlights strengths and weaknesses Makes class more efficient by reducing time reviewing HW

The ASSISTment System Instant reports to teachers Students get problems online Students get instant feedback

The ASSISTment System The Anatomy of an ASSISTment Student Account Teacher Account Content o MCAS o “Problem Sets” organized by skill

What is next Give it a try! Develop a simple routine I can come down on your first or second day to help out in the lab. Get the students involved in the data let them tell you what it tells the class to do next. Regroup in March or April to think about a more comprehensive plan for 10-11.
