Imperative Mood The mood of a verb refers to the way the action or state of being is expressed. Examples include declarative, which makes a statement, or interrogative, which asks a question. A verb in the imperative mood gives a command or request. The inferred subject for these sentences is you.

Here are two examples from “My Favorite Chaperone:” 1. “Take off your jacket and hang it up, Nurzhan.” 2. “Let me try to get permission for you from Papa.” Both of these sentences are written in the imperative mood. What is the subject in both sentences? Hint: (you) #1 is a command #2 is a request
