Aims of tablet eLearning 1:1 scheme’s primary focus is to assist: students shape their own learning (formerly self-directed learning) (formerly independent learning!)

You still have books, you still have teachers, you still have written assessed work. What can you do in the middle to improve outcomes? iPads can assist students: find information, formulate ideas, collaborate etc etc BEFORE the final piece of work

They can personalise the context of that learning, consolidate understanding and extend their knowledge. They can take their learning outside of the classroom and still have access to resources. Students can use technology to collaborate on activities, both within and outside of the classroom. They can use technology (or not) to present their understanding in a manner which suits their learning style best. Allowing students to work independently means that teachers can work with small groups and assist their particular needs, continually checking understanding.
