2 2 Overview of the Week - Logistics Breaks are at 10:00 and 2:30, lunch is from noon to 1, we end at 4:00 Lunch is on our own Morning session I, II, afternoon session I, II Afternoon session II will be group work and group presentations I expect you to have fun and learn as you will see me having fun and learning also.

3 3 Overview of the Week - Curriculum AP Syllabus with break out focus on several specific topics Pacing guides, AP Exam prep, AP grading philosophy Focus on instructional strategies for specific contents Computer lab, electronic resources available We will discuss content in four ways – symbolic, numeric, graphic, and descriptive

4 4 Overview of the Week – Curriculum (cont.) This is a two way street – I will learn probably more from you than you learn from me. No schedule is set in stone. 6 6 Day 1 – AP Calculus AB Overview Syllabus and Pacing Content Overivew We will progress through the course, approximately one quarter per day What resources do we have available to us? What is AP calculus?

7 7 Morning - The Acorn and AP Exam Syllabus Goals Topic Outline Calculator Guidelines Showing Work on the Free Response Writing for specificity, concise-ity, non-wordy-ity Interlude to AP Central Web page, exam format

8 8 Afternoon – Syllabus, Pacing, Content Topic 1 Exam Resources and Program Information Sample Syllabi How do we handle homework Test prep? Multiple choice?

10 10 Topic II - Syllabus and Pacing How do you address grades in your class? Categories? Homework, projects, exams Formative / Summative Ideas to share Pacing

11 11 Afternoon Session Group Work Collaboration is the key to success When you are trying something new, find a buddy, bring them along with you Share in your successes and non- successes.

12 12 Day 1 Work Session Content Guide: Limits difference quotient Continuity Power rule, product rule, quotient rule, trig rules In a small group, create a “lesson” Some artifact that you could use in your class this fall. Could be a project, free response type question, scavenger hunt, extended problem set, game, review activity Some ‘exploration’ that addresses essential objectives, kids would like, and we can use I will scan these in for our webpage
