Developing for Mobile Mobile is a different application from Desktop – Two separate and complete efforts – Our workload went up 50% Need to re-design application with limited functionality and with appropriate navigation – Rethink the user experience – OK for “consumer” processes – they are simple – Kills B2B and work processes - complicated How do you display a 100 records and a 25 step work process? Admin functions – leave for Desktop access Internal 100% API usage – External interfaces become a “gimme”.
7
Memory for B2B User experience relative to web browser – huge memories & land lines – Web browsing increased demands on databases many fold as people navigated thru reams of files. – B2B is limited Video Mobile devices with a range of memories much smaller – For example, can’t download 20,000 records and navigate with Javascript – Have to design for smaller memory size – “Out of Memory” messages A 2015 problem – will be gone by 2017

Software Development Perspective Pain on a Scale of 1 to 10 – Internet Explorer (Microsoft):10 – Apple IOS: 2 – Android: 1 Mobile device updates: – 80% on latest version of Browser – Compared to 50 to 60% of Desktop Common code for Mobile devices – Not for “fancy” user Interface – Just fine for getting B2B work done Dev and Debug Tools: Android sets the standard
9
WiFi Offload Consumers demanding high bandwidth applications High Cellular data costs Everyone has a Android or IPhone

Cities & Coverage Cell towers are giant hot spots? – Google “Project Nova” – Hybird cellular/Wi-Fi network for data and cell phones – Wi-Fi Only phones on Long Island Wired City means Wireless Cities – New Haven applying to make city wireless available Future – Gigbit wireless ends wires – Back to electric supply as the only wire to your home – oops, wait a minute, with Solar & Tesla Battery even that may disappear. – No Mo Wires!
