MPCAH @ UCA Est-d in 2010 SMD4GC program Hosted by UCA 35 institutional members of the Mountain Partnership from 7 regional countries Network of networks Advancing the mountain agenda and mountain people’s concerns into global / regional /national and subnational development and policy making processes (policy advocacy); Consolidating mountain stakeholder efforts by providing a single platform for an action-oriented regional network supporting policy advocacy, partnership building and joint actions (mountain stakeholders CSOs); Providing a one-stop learning centre for enhancing local trained capacity, encouraging global cross- learning, documentation and exchange of good practices between mountain regions and nations; Contributing to participatory governance and informed policy-making on mountain related issues through community mobilization and collaborative initiatives with policy makers at multiple levels; Communicating and popularizing high–quality applied research findings by its host institution, the University of Central Asia.

FS in Central Asia Generally, mountain people are undernourished/micronutrient deficiency Stunting rate : 37.2% children in mountains to 29% in non-mountain areas Tajikistan (42% to 26.8%) and Kyrgyzstan (36.2% to 17.8%) Agrarian countries with 65-80% rural Monoculture growing: land taken from food growing Agriculture in the national economy: decline from 46% to 17,5% for past 15 years For 9 staple products ensuring Food security: KG self sufficient in only 3 staple products in 2012 (potatoes; milk and vegetables) 25% population food insecure (1.3 mln) WFP 25% of households or 1.3 million people are food insecure or undernourished ( WFP)
