Mechanism of Injury The cause of DeQuervain’s disease remains idiopathic (arising spontaneously or from an obscure or unknown cause).

Symptoms Pain, tenderness, and swelling over thumb side of the wrist Difficulty gripping Finkelstien’s test

Treatment Surgery Palliative treatments include a splint to immobilize wrist and thumb to the interphalangeal joint Anti-inflammatory medication

Recovery Physical therapy focuses on lifting mechanics Sometimes prescribes splint
