Driving SCIENCE STEM Activity 3 Displaying Data About Seatbelts Honda Civic-Front 3-Point Seat Belts with Automatic Tensioning System

Which Displays Work With the Collected Data? Stem and leaf Box and whisker Histogram Circle graph Line graph List Table Bar graph Double bar graph Line (dot) plot In 10 random samples of middle school students, how many had their seatbelts fastened when arriving at school? Observing TeamYesNo Team 182 Team 2100 Team 391 Team 4100 Team 5100

Which Displays Work With the Collected Data? Stem and leaf Box and whisker Histogram Circle graph Line graph List Table Bar graph Double bar graph Line (dot) plot Of the 25 vehicles arriving at school observed by each of the 15 teams, how many vehicles had 100% seatbelt usage? 23, 18, 25, 25, 24, 22, 19, 19, 24, 24, 25, 25, 17, 20, 20

Compiling the Data How can our raw data be described? Did our data collection work or should we make revisions in our plan? Explain. What next step should we take to better understand our data?

Which Displays Work With Our Raw Data? List Table Bar graph Double bar graph Line (dot) plot Stem and leaf Box and whisker Histogram Circle graph Line graph Will you choose a computer program or paper and pencil to display the data? Why?

Developing the Display Teamwork Choose a data display for the seatbelt data. Decide on paper or technology. Set up the display. Enter the data. Include title and labels. Be prepared to share how you developed your display.

Reflecting on the Project What can we do differently next time to make data collection more efficient? What method of data collection do you prefer (interview, observation, forms)? Why? What does raw data tell about a data collection project? Frontal airbags are designed to supplement the seatbelts to help reduce the likelihood of head and upper body injuries in frontal crashes.
