3  The battles were fought in Virginia it started in southeastern part of Virginia and was fought along York river up to Richmond.  The Peninsular Campaign was fought April 4 th through July 1 st 1862.

4  Who- the generals for the Union soldiers were Edwin V. Sumner, Samuel P. Henizelman, Erasmus D. Keyes and the generals for the Confederates were D. H. Hill, James Longstreet, John B. Magruder, and Robert E. Lee.  What- the Campaign was about the Union soldiers were trying to attack the Confederate capital Richmond. The campaign failed for the Union but was a great victory for the Confederates.  When- was the months June 25 th through July 1 st of 1862  Where- was fought throughout Northern Virginia through Southern Virginia.  Why- it was fought because the Union was trying to regain control of the capital of Richmond  How- it was fought with very many tactics like the Quaker Gun which was used to fool the enemies into think that they had a lot of powerful cannons but they were really just huge logs painted black.

5  Number of soldiers on the Union side Had over 100,000 troops.  Number of Confederates soldiers there were was over 115,000 men with 330 guns and over 45,000 men to call in.  Over 22700 soldiers on the Union side were missing, killed or wounded.  Over 27900 soldiers on the Confederate side were missing, killed, or wounded.

6  Hampton Roads battle lasted from March 8 th to 9 th it was the most noted navel battle in the Civil War  Yorktown battle was from April 5 th May 4 th Union commander George B. McClellan’s Army of the Potomac fought Major General John B. Magruder and his confederate force at Yorktown behind the Warwick Line.  Williamsburg was fought on May 5 th 1862 also known as the battle of Fort Magruder it took place in York county, James city county, and Williamsburg Virginia.  Battle of Eltham’s Landing took place on May 7 th 1862 New Kent county, Virginia William B. Franklin’s Union division landed at the landing and was attacked by 2 brigades of Brigade General G. W. Smith  Norfolk and Drewry’s Bluff was fought on May 15 th 1862 in Chester Field County, Virginia 5 U.S. navy gunboats went up the James River to test the defenses in Richmond Virginia.

7  The Battle of Hanover Court House was fought on May 27 th 1862 in Hanover county. Brigade General Fitz John Porter and his 5 corps extended North to protect the right flank of Major General McClellan’s Union Army of the Potomac. Porters objective was to deal with a Confederate force near Hanover Court House.  The battle of 7 Pines was fought from May 31 st to June 1 st 1862. in Henrico county it was a culmination of an offensive up the Virginia Peninsula by Major General McClellen  The seven days battles were series of 6 major battles over the 7 days from June 25 th to July 1 st

8  Edwin Vose Sumner Union General born in Jan 30 th 1797 he died March 21 st 1863. Born in Boston Massachusetts, he entered the U.S. army as a 2 nd Lt as the 2 nd us infantry unit March 3 rd 1819.  Samuel P. Heintzelman Union General was born on Sept. 30 th 1805 and died May 1 st 1880. He was in the second Seminole and the Mexican American, Civil, Yuma, and Cortina. 

9 Erasmus Darwin Keyes born on May 29 th 1810 and died Oct. 14 th 1895. he was Union General and he was noted for leading the 4 th corps of the Union Army of the Potomac during the first half of the American Civil War.

10  James Longstreet born Jan. 8 th 1821 to Jan 2 nd 1904 was one of the foremost Confederate Generals of the Civil War.  Danial Harvey Hill Confederate general, was born on July 12 th 1821 and died on Sept. 24 th 1889. He served with A. P. Hill in the army of Northern Virginia.

11  John B. Magruder Confederate general, was born on May 1 st 1807 and died on Feb 19 th 1871. He was a U.S. army officer of the Mexican American War and lead in the Civil War.

15  The importance this battle had on the Civil War was great for the Confederates it may have been the most ambitious Union operation ever launched but it worked out for the Confederates.  It was a unsuccessful Union effort to capture the Confederate capital at Richmond.  This battle was one of the most controversial operations of the Civil War.  McClellan Blamed Washington for failing to provide him with enough men or support, despite outnumbering his opponents for the entire campaign.  McClellan lost because he moved slowly with his troops to Richmond and kept getting held up by small Confederate forces.
