Mobile Team Training What? Tailor made ELW training delivered abroad Why? Lower costs, increase attractiveness More students can be taught ELW staff enjoy broadening experience Relieves burden on ELW resources eg classrooms, therefore more courses at ELW Relieves pressure on limited DSL accommodation In-country language training leads to new business

Congo DA requested 6 wk ELT for 12 Congolese Army Officers at DSL Planning process: –Establish student SLP level –Timetable/course produced and endorsed –Resources allocated –15hrs before student arrival DA called to say students would not arrive New Plan Security: –Dedicated driver –In-country brief/mobiles –Maintain comms throughout

Congo Requirement v Reality: –Students old enemies, no hostility –Common language French –Not General Interpreters’ ELT, Sub Saharan Defence Force –Not SLP3 –Virtually no resources, PCs limited electricity –Training 0830-1430, no breaks –Students have minimal education –No understanding of modern words

Sudan Requirement v Reality: –Students old enemies, hostility –Not just ELT but encourage cooperation between groups –Course Prep in evenings –Leadership training –No training/sanitation facilities –45°C daily temperatures –Surrounded by mine fields –North/South educational divide
