2 Interdisciplinary Project Interdisciplinary Project Due Date October 11, 2012 Social Studies Requirements Each student will design a concept map identifying and describing a select animal & plant found in Southwest Asia (Middle East).

3 Standard SS7G7 The student will explain the impact of location, climate, physical characteristics, distribution of natural resources and population distribution on Southwest Asia (Middle East).

4 Element-SS7G7b b. Describe how the deserts and rivers of Southwest Asia (Middle East) have affected the population in terms of where people live, the type of work they do, and how they travel.

5 Instructions-Step 1 Each student will be assigned a particular plant and animal from Southwest Asia.

16 Continued Instructions- Step 2 Students will research their particular plant and animal and gather pertinent information about each.

17 Continued Instructions-Step 3 After completing the research, the students will create a Thinking Map containing the information found. The Thinking Map should be placed on a poster.

19 Details of Step 3 The poster should contain a title. The poster should have two separate thinking maps on each side of the poster. One thinking map will be for the plant and the other for the animal. A picture or illustration of the assigned animal and plant should be included on the poster. Do not write sentences on your poster. Only list facts of each plant and animal.

21 Rubric-Grading Scale Your Social Studies Project will be graded according to the following questions: Does the poster have a title? 15 points Was the correct format for the Thinking Map used?15 points Was the specified amount of facts displayed? 40 points Were all guidelines given followed? 15 points Is the poster neat and creative? 15 points
